Welcome to Ancient Buzzard!

Question: What is Ancient Buzzard?
Answer: A forum for combining two of my hobbies - wargaming and 3D design. I started it as a business, briefly......., but fortunately I saw sense and closed it down! No money changing hands, invoicing, accounts, production or other forms of hassle! Just the pleasure of creating things.

Question: What are you working on at the moment?
Answer: See the News page for the latest updates.

I'm working on three concurrent projects;

15mm Sci-fi Interior scenery system,

15mm Sci-fi Exterior scenery,

15mm Vehicles.

Question: What 3D and other software do you use?
Answer: All of my 3D modelling is done in MoI3D (www.MoI3D.com). I'm currently trying out the v3 beta. I've used it since the v1 Beta in 2007 and I can recommend it to anyone as it is far easier to use than any other package I've tried. I use MiniMagics v2.0 (www.materialise.com) to check that the 3D export files (.STLs) are okay for printing. To create rendered model images (usually in grey against a blue background), I use SimLab Composer (Animation Edition) v2.3 (www.simlab-soft.com). For creating drawings for brass etching, I use Corel Draw v7.0 (www.corel.com) - yes I know its a really old version but it does what I need!

Question: Where do you have your 3D models printed?
Answer: Whilst I have used other bureaus in the past, I tend to now to just use www.shapeways.com. The quality is not as great as I can get elsewhere, but as my hobby budget is limited, the lower cost, and ease of use, make up for that.

Question: What 3D projects for other people have you worked on?
Answer: See the 3D For Others page for details.

Question: What inspired your logo?
Answer: The logo was developed from "Buzzard Head" carvings used by the Swift Creek People (southern Georgia, USA, 200-700AD). For more information on the Swift Creek People and their artwork see the South Georgia College website.

Question: Why did you choose the name Ancient Buzzard?
Answer: I helped my old friend Jez of Old Crow Models when he started his business many years ago by doing catalogues etc., followed by designing, and then maintaining, his website for a long period. I always joked that, as I was older than him, and in the spirit of naming a business after a carrion bird, if I ever started one of my own, then Ancient Buzzard seemed to be the natural choice considering my initials.

Question: How do I contact you?
Answer: Email me, Andrew Burton, at hq@ancientbuzzard.co.uk.
